PHOENIX Bunches of Love
Phoenix started out as Liberty because PCSR received him on July 4th. He tested positive for Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and was on heavy antibiotics for two months. He had, in all, sixteen ticks and was about 10-15 pounds underweight. He was skittish, shy and from being chained in a dirt yard the first years of his life, unsure about floors, grass, dog toys and treats. His fur was like straw and was dingy. He is supposed to be about 2 years old but the vets say he is 4; we go with 3 years old.
My husband and I have had him for over six months now and he has come a long way. We were told he was fed nothing but pig feed. He does have a sensitive stomach so I personally fix his food, which is rice and turkey or chicken mixed with Avoderm baked crunchies. He now loves treats, especially his rawhides that he chews like bubble gum. He really loves the fresh-made pumpkin and carrot dog biscuits I make for him and my other dog, Ozzy. He still does not like dog toys, especially the ones that make a noise, but we're still working with him. He'll sometimes pick up his soft braided rope but not without a lot of coaxing.
Phoenix has definitely come out of his shell. He started obedience training back in October and has graduated. However, he still needs lots of practice. He has just started an agility class. He is still skittish about some of the equipment but I think he will do fantastic. When he graduates this, we will probably go on to the next level if he is doing well in it. The only thing about Phoenix is that he is more of a socialite than a worker. He loves being the social dog who has got to meet everyone and be the rebel of the group.
He is turning into a beautiful dog with luxuriously soft fur. Phoenix has a sweet face with sweet little innocent eyes that love to stare into your eyes with bunches of love. He loves his chest and stomach to be scratched. He is so vocal now. He sighs…and groans…and grunts…and even talks to you up a storm if you let him. The one thing that we love to watch is him being a snow dog. He absolutely loves the snow. He goes outside and shovels the snow into his mouth and eats it. He goes around the backyard and does this every time he goes outside. Ozzy and Phoenix are the favorites up at Wag N Wash with the people there. They just love to go for rides to Wag N Wash, Petco and Petsmart except when it is bath day.
Phoenix is just the most wonderful dog who hopefully if he wants, might be competing in agility competitions or just showing off what a smart boy he is.
