MIRI
The Graduate

Sweet Miri is about 2 1/2 years old and weighs about 39 pounds.  Her original owners were an elderly couple who had to go into a nursing home in South Dakota so they gave her to their caretaker, who in turn gave her to her father - a truck driver who did not want a dog.  He took Miri to the Pierre, S.D., dog pound which has a 24-hour kill policy.  Fortunately, the truck driver insisted they call the Humane Society since she was a purebred Sheltie and tell them about Miri.  If not for his insistence we would not have Miri today!  Once taken to the Humane Society they called PCSR and Miri began her journey, via several volunteers, to Colorado.

Miri arrived with a perennial tail wag and is not only beautiful and calm but also has immaculate house manners.  She has never bothered anything in our house!  Since we got her on March 3rd she has greeted us each day with lots of excitement and Sheltie spins, sometimes catching her tail in her mouth as she spins!  She loves to play fetch, tug of war and plays with her soft toys which she squeaks as she carries them around.  Miri seems to have had some obedience training as she already knew sit, down, heel, etc.  She loves hiking in the mountains with us and Miri has an especially funny habit that when she hears anyone sneeze she becomes quite excited - running, jumping and barking at the person who sneezed.  The louder the sneeze the more excited Miri gets!  When we are all in the backyard Miri enjoys chasing airplanes, imaginary bugs and singing in tune with sirens.

Miri is great with other dogs and a joy to have around.  She has graduated from Intermediate Obedience Class and is registered for the Advanced Obedience Class in December so we can bond with her even more. Miri can do sit/stay, down, wait, shake hands, crawl, give me a kiss, and several other new tricks!  She is such a wonderful dog and companion and we love her so very much.
